I will be on the road home from Jazz Fest soon and thought I would share a
couple of articles from this morning's Times-Picayune. It has been a very
good fest with generally good (for May in LA) weather. The crowds seemed
larger again this year. There were estimates of over 65,000 at the Acura
stage alone for both the Springsteen and Eagles sets. One of my highlights
was getting to see Sugar Boy Crawford (with his grandson Davell on B-3)
yesterday. Jo Cool Davis gave up the last two songs of his set in the
Gospel tent for Sugar Boy. His voice was a bit weak but it was a delight
to get to see him sing.
The articles below are on Bonnie's set and the closing set by the
Preservation Hall band. I passed on the PH set to see the Neville Brothers
close, a tradition for me, but that may have been a mistake. I'm still
stunned by the news of Michael Burks' death but the music goes on. We have
Nick Moss at home this Sunday. Peace, and take care of yourself and all
that is close to you.
