JOSH WHITE, a newly acquired appreciation for me

Before he moved to NYC and became a folk singer White made some
amazing blues and gospel records. He played in the style later called
"Piedmont" and was the equal of any of his contemporaries except maybe
Willie Walker and Blind Blake. His vocal style was very urban, more
like Lonnie Johnson than Buddy Moss or Rev. Gary Davis, not too
different from the way he sounded in the '40s and '50s. His early stuff
on Document is well worth checking out. You can download mp3s from

Do yourself a favor and go to YouTube and listen to all of his selections that can be heard there...who knows, it may even inspire a sale.
