Where Steve Cropper Got 'Em From

Interesting. I was once in a restaurant in Memphis and Steve Cropper came
in with his whole family and sat down at the table next to me. I didn't
want to disturb him so I waited until I was leaving and then told him I
copied all of his licks on the guitar. He raised his eyebrows and said
"Mine? Why would you want to do that? There's not much there." Then he
laughed and we had a short conversation. Nice guy. The same weekend I got to
see Teenie Hodges play in a small group. Very different style from Cropper
but a similar sensibility regarding rhythm. A great guitar weekend.
