But the human voice is an instrument, too, and I think that is what gives
blues its unique appeal. I first was attracted to the music when I was
around 6 or 7 years old and know that I couldn't have appreciated the lyrics
then like I did later in my life...especially the sexual innuendo. Even if
the lyrics are nonsensical, garbled, or just plain misunderstood by the
vocalist and the audience, blues has the power to touch the soul in a way
that many other genres rarely achieve. I'm reminded of the recent
discussion here about scatting and okra ropes; it's the "feel" that counts.

I'm not saying that the lyrics are unimportant but you have to accept the
fact that the Blues is different in that the words are usually slang or
stuttering, or repeated over and over (chants). Not the best way to get
across your subject. Also some songs have no words at all and you can
