JESSE FORTUNE , CHARLES WILSON AND BILLY FLYNN PERFORMED AT ELKHART LAKE
BLUES FESTIVAL
In the 1950's Jesse Fortune was special guest vocalist in the Otis Rush Band
and then later with Buddy Guys Band. That should give readers an idea of how
great a vocalist Jesse was because Otis and Buddy in their prime were great
vocalists in their own right. Jesse later was taken under the wing of Willie
Dixon who put him on the USA label. Jesse quickly had a hit tune "Too Many Cooks"
(Cover Eric Clapton etc) . Dissoultioned by having a hit record and getting
ripped off on his royalties Jesse left music and took up the barbering trade.
Thanks to Bob Koester of Delmark Records Jesse is back and recording and
performing again. Jesse proved this weekend that he still has it.
Billy Flynn opened the show with his always great band and then joined
Jesse Fortune on stage for his show with Willie Young on Tenor Sax (Howlin
Wolf) and Jesse Scinto Tenor Sax (Big Jay McNeeley), Bernard Reed bass (Jackie
Wilson, The Temptations, Ike Turner, Jody Williams etc.) and Rob Waters on
keyboards (Lonnie Brooks etc.)
