 From Offbeat Weekly Beat:

Guitarist/violinist Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, will conduct a "master
class" at Loyola University's Nunemaker Hall on Friday, September 10, at
4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Gate's lecture will be
filmed for inclusion in a future series of DVDs entitled The Louisiana
Masters Series, a title somewhat redolent of a similar historical series
that runs in the pages of OffBeat. Gatemouth will also be presented with an
award from the state of Louisiana at this event.

Brown, recently diagnosed with lung cancer, has recently undergone rigorous
testing at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and has decided to
forego treatment. According to an official statement: "He chooses to
continue performing, savoring every moment day by day with an eagerness to
be with his fans."

I might add that Gatemouth's set at Bumbershoot was nothing less than
