Blues societies = blues nazis???

I agree with you Greg, especially about Peter Damann booking Waterfront. He does a great job, and his bands are not always booked at the festival every year. I also understand where Steve is coming from, especially because I know he's referring to a special situation here in the SF Bay Area. One blues society puts on several festivals in the area, and the head of the blues society plays in the band that not only always has a spot on the fest, but also backs up all the touring musicians who are booked. For me, as a fan, it's fine because I like the band. But it does cut down on opportunities for other bands to get booked. Maybe Steve wants to amplify.

I don't know if I can completely agree with this statement. I look at Peter
Dammann as an example. He books the Waterfront Blues Festival and also plays
in two of the area's biggest blues acts: The Paul deLay Band and DK4
(featuring keyboardist DK Stewart). Should we be cancelled out of the chance
to see these bands simply because Peter is their guitarist? I mean, he's
booking 100 bands for this festival every year, so there are quite a bit of
others having the opportunity to play, both local and national acts. Not
exactly a blues society putting this line-up together, but the statement
seemed open-ended when speaking of festivals.
