On this day in 1960, Ray Charles' "Georgia On My Mind" reached #1 on the 
pop singles chart. That same day Federal Marshals were sent to New Orleans 
to escort 4 black children into a previously all-white Elementary School, 
while local officials sought a court order to either close the school or 
bar the black students from being able to attend.
