Anybody know what the Juba to Jive dictionary has to say? I got to get a
copy of that book.

The American Heritage Dictionary says that it is "perhaps" from the
Wolof word hipi or hepi. I think the word "perhaps" is probably right on
the money because we will never know for sure.
