Harry Manx

I notice that Harry Manx is nominated for a few Maple Blues Awards this
year by our friends the Toronto Blues Society. I discovered Harry about
two years ago when I was watching an Australian music TV show called "The
Basement" (which unfortunately has ceased to exist) that was streamed 24/7
on the Internet. If what they played on that station was typical of what
gets played in Australia, then Aussies are a bit luckier than
Americans. Anyway, what I saw was a live concert by Manx filmed in the
Sydney club that gave the TV station it's name "The Basement". He was
mesmerizing. I don't think he can really be called "Blues". He does a few
Blues tunes, in his own style, but his music is quite unique and
personal. Well from that late night discovery, besides becoming addicted
to "The Basement" (especially Doug and Quinno), I became a big fan of Harry
Manx, bought a half dozen or so of his CDs, and one Concert DVD. His
latest CD "West Eats Meat" is still in my car, and is nominated for best
recording by Maple Blues. Personally, I'm hard pressed to call his music
Blues, but I think two things favor his inclusion. One... his playing and
singing are very soulful, and he employs a slide on many tunes, and two...
people who like Blues, like Harry.

I'd be interested in hearing what others think about this man and his
music. Also, are there any other Doug & Quinno fans out there?
