On this day in 1902, some of the earliest known recordings of black music
were made. The Dinwiddie Quartet, recorded several spirituals for the
Victor Talking Machine Company. They were eventually released on the
Monarch label. A catalog description of the recordings read, "These are
genuine Jubilee and Camp Meeting Shouts sung as only Negroes can sing them."

On this day in 1956, Jimmy Rogers recorded "Walking By Myself" supported by
a great Walter Horton harp solo. I hope Jimmy profited from the Gary Moore
version of this song which sold over 3 million copies.
