Two special guests - guitarists and singers Big Dave McLean from Winnipeg
and Sue Foley from Ottawa - will perform with an all-star band at the third
annual Maple Blues Awards ceremonies to be held in Toronto.

The event honours bands and individual musicians from coast to
coast, all of them involved in Canada's flourishing blues scene.

The Maple Blues Awards gala event takes place at the Phoenix
Concert Theatre, 410 Sherbourne St., with an evening starting at 7 p.m. and
which includes a reception, dinner, the awards presentations, and plenty of
live music; television personality Mike Bullard is the host. Tickets are
$45.00 ($40 for Toronto Blues Society members), and available from the TBS
(416) 538-3885, or at Pages Books 256 Queen St. W. at John St.

The two special guests are both nominees - Sue Foley as Female
Vocalist of the Year, Electric Act of the Year, and Guitarist of the Year,
and Big Dave McLean as Acoustic Act of the Year and for the prestigious
Blues With a Feeling Award. The band for the event consists entirely of
nominees, and is led by bassist Gary Kendall, with Maureen Brown (drums),
Michael Fonfara (keyboard), Chris Whiteley (trumpet), Pat Carey (saxes),
Carlos del Junco (harmonica) and Teddy Leonard (guitar).

Some 70 bands and individual musicians from coast to coast have
been nominated for the Awards. The Toronto group Fathead and its members
won the most nominations (seven), close runners-up were the Edmonton group
The Rockin' Highliners and Trois Rivieres guitarist Steve Hill and his
band, who each earned six nominations. Five musicians in the veteran
Downchild Blues Band were nominated. Toronto harmonica player Michael
Pickett was nominated for four awards, including the Blues With a Feeling
Award.

The Awards are organized by the Toronto Blues Society, whose
500-plus members voted for winners in 17 different categories. Blues fans
across the country also participated in the voting, thanks to the support
of blues radio djs who promoted the event.

The major sponsor of the Maple Blues Awards is Bell ActiMedia,
while individual awards are sponsored by The SOCAN Foundation, Stony Plain
Records, Long & McQuade Limited, and Music Manufacturing Services. Other
