REV. ORIS MAYS, GOSPEL SINGER, DIES AT 61

 Dear Blues-L(and) :

 Gospel singer & songwriter Rev. Oris Mays died Sunday, April 21, 1996,
 Memphis, TN., at age 61. Born in Lambert, MS., he was pastor of the Boston
 Baptist Church since 1960, recording two albums for Don Robey's Song Bird
 Records during 1965-1968, including his composition "Tribute In Prayer
 (from A Soldier In Vietnam)".  He also owned a Beale Steet recordshop with
 gospel dj Brother Theo Wade (of The Spirit Of Memphis Quartet) and had a
 Sunday TV program since 1966. He last recorded for Klondyke Records.
 Survivors include his wife (Elizabeth Mays); four daughters (Ywonetta,
 Mychell, Owita, Vida); a brother (Willie Darden Mays) and one granddaughter.
