Taj Mahal is playing Jazz Alley this week, solo and his opening set tonight was great. He
played the piano and the dobro, covering material from "Dancing the Blues," Etta
Baker, Eliz. Cotton, Robert Johnson, Elmore James and others. I did an interview with
him for Seattle Blues and he played a tape of his upcoming release (Private Music,
sometime in Feb. or March) in the car. It sounded great, lots of reworkings of classics
like "Lonely Avenue" and "Oooh Pooh Pa Dooh" (sp?). He has a band playing with
him and Bonnie Raitt is on at least one cut.
