RJ's influence (Was HAPPY BIRTHDAY, T-BONE WALKER)

Although Johnson's recordings were not that influential during his
lifetime, I get the impression from Robert Palmer's Deep Blues that the
originators of delta blues were a small group from a small enough area
that RJ's inflence on key figures in the Delta was substantial although I
doubt that it rivaled Charlie Patton.  As Palmer relates the story, RJ
became such an incredible player in such a short time that people tended
to believe his story about the devil.
